Healthy Teeth with a Daily Oral Care Routine

Maintaining good oral hygiene is important not only for a beautiful smile but also for your general health. A regular daily oral care routine can prevent tooth decay, gum disease and other oral health problems. So how can you take the right steps to keep your teeth healthy and strong? Here are the basic steps that should be part of your daily oral care routine.

1. Brush Your Teeth Twice a Day

Brushing your teeth twice a day, in the morning and before going to bed, is the most basic and most important step of oral care. Use a fluoride toothpaste to protect the tooth enamel and prevent decay. Brush your teeth for at least two minutes and take care to clean all surfaces — front, back and chewing surfaces. Do not forget to brush your tongue as well, since bacteria can also accumulate there.

2. Use Dental Floss Every Day

Using dental floss is often neglected, but it is as important a step as brushing. Floss cleans plaque and food particles from between your teeth. Using floss regularly is very effective in those areas your toothbrush cannot reach. Take care to use floss at least once after brushing your teeth.

3. Cleaning with Mouthwash

Mouthwash is another important cleaning tool you can use after brushing your teeth. By using a mouthwash with antibacterial properties you can eliminate bacteria remaining in the mouth. Mouthwash also helps prevent bad breath and can be added as a step that completes oral hygiene.

4. Clean Your Teeth Correctly

Your brushing technique also matters. Place your brush at a right angle to your teeth and take care to brush with gentle circular movements. Brushing your teeth hard can damage your gums and harm your tooth enamel. Likewise, do not forget that you need to replace your toothbrush regularly.

5. Healthy Eating Habits

Your dental health depends not only on your care routine but also on what you eat. Avoid sugary and acidic foods as far as possible, because such foods can damage the tooth enamel. Drinking plenty of water and eating healthy foods rich in vitamins and minerals help keep your teeth healthy.

6. Dental Check-ups

Visiting your dentist regularly is an important part of your dental care. By examining your mouth, your dentist can detect problems that may arise at an early stage. Dental cleaning and check-ups help you protect your dental health in the long term.
